Keeping Wimbledon Green

Every year Love Wimbledon splashes The Piazza green with astroturf for our Big Screen Tennis and Summer Sit Out events. Local business, Abbotswood Flooring supplies and fits the astroturf for us and if it’s in good enough condition to re-use, stores it for us for the following year.

After this summer the astroturf was unfortunately not good enough for re-use on The Piazza, so we offered it out to our community. We were thrilled to see it successfully upcycled by a local allotment which specialises in working with the elderly. The astroturf has been used on their pathways, enabling visitors to navigate their way around the allotment more easily. One of the helpers enthused, “It has gone down a treat! We can’t thank you enough and we certainly do love Love Wimbledon.”

We are constantly aware of our environment at Love Wimbledon and strive to reduce our environmental impact, including initiatives such as making our markets single-use plastic free.

Helen Clark Bell, CEO of Love Wimbledon commented, “Our aim is to reuse wherever possible and recycle if reuse isn’t possible. We are really pleased the astroturf has found a local home which will assist those on the allotments.”
