The Golf Groove

The perfect experience for the whole family, The Golf Groove is now open on the top floor of Centre Court Shopping. Wimbledon’s first ever climbing gym, The Boardroom Climbing will be coming soon this summer to the first floor of Centre Court Shopping. Discover a new world of climbing with your family when conquering the 10,000 sq ft of bouldering space.

The Amazing World of Theatre

Polka Theatre

Join Polka Theatre for two amazing upcoming performances this summer. Get ready for the incredible world of Stuff and Nonsense for their energetic adaptation of The Adventures of The Little Red Hen, featuring puppetry, live music and unforgettable comedy, for ages 3-10 years.

Settle in for one small bear’s big adventure, The Everywhere Bear is a captivating and beautiful story from best-selling author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Rebecca Cobb, springs to life with rhyme, original music and delightfully expressive puppets, for ages 3-7 years.

 

Keep Calm and Craft On

Art-K Wimbledon

Take your child on an artistic journey with a holiday workshop at Art-K Wimbledon. There is a combination of half-day and full day courses, allowing your children to explore projects working with paper sculpture, clay, design, mixed media, watercolour and acrylics. Every child works on their own individual project – at the end of the session, they’ll go home with a finished piece of artwork!

 

Games Night

Cuppa’ Chaii

Visit Wimbledon’s popular games café, Cuppa’ Chaii. Their games room has all the classics perfect for some great family fun. Play carrom, Ludo, monopoly, UNO and much more seven days a week till late while grabbing a cup of tasty chai and delicious South Asian inspired treats.

 

Food Family and Sunshine

Oddono’s Gelati Wimbledon

Stay chill and sweet this half-term with a cold treat from Oddono’s Gelati, enjoy fresh natural Italian ice cream with all different flavours, perfect for treating your little ones. Or sip on Taiwanese bubble tea from Multea Choice with a unique blend of tea and juices and of course toppings on the side. ‘Kids eat free’ is back at Bill’s! Up to two kids can eat free all day from Monday 29th May – Friday 2nd June, when one adult orders any main dish.

February 2022 Half-Term Events in Wimbledon

Looking for something to do with the kids this half term? Wimbledon is filled with workshops and activities that are sure to delight children of all ages!

Art

art-K Wimbledon are hosting a combination of 2-hour and full-day art courses to inspire creativity in the young through projects working with paper sculpture, clay, design, mixed media, watercolour and acrylics. Each project is individual and at the end of the session, children will go home with a finished piece of artwork. Projects for this half-term will include producing clay turtles, fairytale illustration, collages and more. Fitness

Teens (11-15-year-olds) can benefit from a structured, specifically catered introduction to the gym, with Better Leisure Wimbledon’s Junior Gym. Keep them active, burn off some energy and improve their confidence in the water, with a range of swimming activities suited for all ages, between Monday 14th – Friday 18th February 2022. Take on a Swim School Crash Course, designed to teach essential swimming skills to children aged 4 years and over, or enjoy a ‘Swim For All’ session with all the family. Find out more here.

Entertainment, Dance & Storytelling

Take part in storytelling, drama and movement workshops, and enjoy accompanying productions Ready, Steady, Go and The Singing Mermaid (pictured below) at Polka Theatre. Make a day of it and enjoy the new outdoor play area, find a little haven of greenness at the Wimbledon Foundation Garden or do some colouring and reading in the Y C Chan Play Den.

The new Centre Court Studio, located in Centre Court Shopping Centre, will be offering a free ‘Love To Dance’ workshop on Valentine’s Day from 1-2pm, for kids aged 7-12 years old. Learn from an established choreographer who will be fusing jazz, contemporary and commercial dance into a 45-minute workshop, followed by 15 minutes of Valentine’s crafts. Younger children are welcome for the free crafts and ‘Love to Boogie’ workshop for adults available from 2-3pm. Find out more and book here.

Catch entertaining animation films like Clifford, Aladdin and Encanto at The Odeon Wimbledon or the spectacular musical comedy The Addams Family at New Wimbledon Theatre.

SEND Activities

Children with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND), aged from 4-7 years old, can take part in fun and interactive multi-sport sessions hosted by OT Play. Wimbledon Library hosts a unique jungle theme, with sensory equipment and specialist SEND book stock, specially adapted toys and equipment that can be borrowed. All you need is a special SEND library card. Half Term and Halloween Fun

Whether you’re looking for family-friendly entertainment for the kids this half-term, some spooky seasonal adult fun or just great autumn events to welcome in the colder months, Wimbledon has an abundance of activity this October.

For the kids and free

The Wimbledon Hocus Pocus Trail kicks off on the 16th October (until 31st October). Dust off your broomsticks and hats and join Love Wimbledon’s FREE video-led trail around Wimbledon Town Centre. With your wands at the ready, begin at Fielders Art Shop and look for the Hocus Pocus poster. Scan the QR code, watch the videos of our wonderful wizard Merlin to find clues and solve the riddle. Be sure to make a stop at Multea Choice and Polka Theatre along the way for a special treat and pick up your certificate at the end of the trail!

 

For creative fingers, enter in a Pumpkin Decorating Competition before Monday 25th October for a chance to win a mystery prize at Fielders, or head down to Centre Court Shopping Centre’s No Carve Pumpkin Station on 30th October (11 – 4pm) with themed games, stories and demonstrations. Plus the opportunity for children to have a go at dressing pumpkins using crafty goods, including bandages, glitter and more.

Wolves have seized power at Polka Theatre! Inspired by Little Red Riding Hood, discover the world of RED and voyage across Polka, through woods and swampland in an adventure like no other. Book your tickets here for this exciting visual and physical storytelling production and follow the action along with actors, exploring the brilliant new Polka Theatre building! Running until October 31st.

Why not make a day of it? Explore the wonderful newly-redeveloped Polka venue, featuring indoor and outdoor play spaces, a friendly café, a colourful kids shop stocked with children’s toys (puppets, creative kits, etc.), and a book corner to read with your child. The theatre is also hosting a Halloween Shadows creepy craft workshop on Tuesday 26th October, an Autumn Senses multi-sensory storytelling workshop on Friday 29th October and a Power Poets spoken word masterclass on Thursday 28th October.

Wimbledon Library has a Multi-Sports Sessions for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th October from 9 – 10am. Advance booking is required.

For adults

Enjoy free Prosecco (or Nosecco) while taking part in Centre Court Shopping Centre’s autumn floristry workshop, Pumpkins and Prosecco. From 6.30 – 8.30pm on 21st October, join the session to choose a pumpkin from the locally sourced selection and be taught how to create a stunning autumnal floral display that you can take home beautifully gift-wrapped. All materials and equipment included. Finish your evening in Queen’s Rd Market bar with bespoke cocktails and live music on a Thursday night.

Up for a night out? Many of the pubs and bars in Wimbledon are celebrating Halloween with special drinks or events.

Trick or treat yourself to a deliciously frightening evening at plant-based café Lu-Ma for their Halloween Supper Club, featuring canapés, cocktails and a 3 course meal: Friday 29th October, 7 – 9pm.

Listen to the soothing sounds of jazz in the tranquil surroundings of Lu-Ma café whilst enjoying your favourite meal and tipple, on Saturday 23 October 6-9pm for a very special Jazz Night with saxophonist Andy ‘Bones’ Shaw.

Indulge in foodie haven at our Local Market on The Piazza (Saturday 30th – Sunday 31st October, 11am – 6pm) located in front of Wimbledon Morrisons. Try superb street food, savour the aromas of freshly-baked bread or dive into decadent desserts, olives and cheeses – all whilst browsing unique art, bespoke jewellery, homewares and accessories from independent makers and creators.

Held in the intimate setting of the Studio at New Wimbledon Theatre, hear a unique and unusual story about friendship, love and loss, set to the sounds of live epic pop songs : Epic Love and Pop Songs is running from Saturday 19th October – Saturday 23rd October.

Laugh it up with live comedy every Saturday either at Queens Rd Market (7.30 – 10pm) or Tunnel 267 (8 – 10pm), or giggle away at LGBTQ+ venue CMYK every Tuesday for their Late Gay Comedy Show (9 – 11pm).

February 2020 Half Term Events

Looking for something to do with the kids this Half Term? Wimbledon is filled with workshops and activities that are sure to delight children of all ages!

 

Polka Theatre 

Despite being closed for renovation, Polka Theatre are hosting a great range of interactive activities to spark the curiosity in your little ones this half-term. All events below will be held at New Wimbledon Theatre.

  • PROPerty of Polka Drama Workshop: Tuesday 18 February, 10.30am – 3.30pm
    Delve into the box of Polka props to see what you can find… a mask, puppet, hat, a ship in a bottle and so much more! A creative acting workshop for budding actors to develop short scenes and then show these off to family and friends at the end of the day.
  • Sing a song with Polka: Wednesday 19 February, 10.30am – 3.30pm
    Join this all-singing, all-dancing, all-acting Musical Theatre workshop! Bring some of our favourite Polka songs to life from a number of our popular shows including; Chocolate Cake, The Everywhere Bear and The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me. Share what has been created with family and friends at the end of the day.
  • Polka’s Treasure Chest of Stories Workshop: Thursday 20 February, various times available.
    Create a brand new ‘Once Upon A Time…’ adventure together with our storyteller, who will use these four magical words to help take you on a journey to the farthest reaches of your imagination. Bring in your treasured toy and go on a magical story adventure. Where will we go? What will we see? Who will we be?!

    Wimbledon Library now features a great new children’s display with a unique theme, sensory equipment and books for children with special educational needs & disabilities (SEND).

 

The Entertainer

  • Various demonstrations including children’s favourites Bukugan and Power Pux, and a Lego Make and Take.
  • Great 44 Cats, PJ Mask and DC Superhero competitions with fantastic prizes to be won, including family trips to Legoland and more!
    All between 10am – 4pm, Monday – Friday.

Odeon

  • Share a great viewing experience with your children this half-term and let their imaginations run wild with Odeon’s selection of children’s movies featuring everything from fairytale fantasies to animated favourites. Centre Court Shopping

 

  • Pop-Up Planetarium: Running between 11am – 4pm, daily from 15th – 21st February.
    Explore the night sky in Centre Court’s Shopping ‘To the Stars and Back’ pop-up planetarium this half-term. Includes a 20-minute show inside the pop-up planetarium with dress-up suits and space food available too!  Book your place under the stars by visiting centrecourtshopping.com.

The kids are greeted into the Sticks’n’Sushi world and get a taster of making their own sushi rolls and nigiri, all followed by taking home some of their hand made treats and a little goody bag.

 

At the end of the day head to Bill’s Restaurant to enjoy their delicious new Autumn Menu whilst the kids enter a ‘design your own milkshake or smoothie colouring competition’.
