Enhancing the Streets of Wimbledon

As Wimbledon blossoms back to life, with many shops re-opening and more residents #LoveLocal as they shop, our Town Ranger has been working especially hard to ensure that the streets of Wimbledon Town Centre remain attractive, clean and safe for your visit.

Our Town Ranger, Tom, is our dedicated eyes and ears on the street and provides a valuable role by:

  • Reporting instances of fly-tipping and fly-posting
  • Facilitating removal of graffiti and gum
  • Investigating water leaks, blocked drains, overflowing bins and more
  • Helping to connect businesses with local enforcement to reduce crime in the area

On his recent adventures around the town, Tom has found the likes of a mannequin, pushchair, sofa and a suitcase being fly-tipped in various locations around the town centre.

Love Wimbledon is continually active in helping our town centre stay clean and remain a community we can all be proud of, and Tom’s work is vital to this. In the past month alone, he has resolved nearly 250 street issues! Often his vigilance means that issues are highlighted so promptly that the public don’t even see them.

Tom has been instrumental in helping businesses as they re-open or prepare to do so, by dishing out our funky new floor vinyls to help businesses manage socially-distanced queues, and posters to let you know which stores are open and which stores will be opening again soon.

“Wimbledon is an exciting town, and I love being a part of keeping it a clean and safe place to visit. Every day brings a new challenge and I never get tired of seeing the public’s reaction when they catch me snapping pictures of overflowing bins in my bright pink Love Wimbledon shirt. Just priceless!”

– Tom, Love Wimbledon Town Ranger

He’s even turned into our resident photographer… Check out some of the great pictures he’s taken of our businesses to let you know that they’re open and ready to welcome you back safely.

Love Wimbledon has been preparing the town centre, to welcome you back to shop safely and responsibly, as well as maintaining Wimbledon as an attractive, vibrant, and well cared-for town to visit. We undertake a deep clean to parts of the town centre every month, and have recently installed contactless public hand sanitiser stations on The Piazza and outside Wimbledon Station.

So please help do your bit by putting any rubbish including cigarette butts in the street bins provided (especially PPE).

Let’s support the vitality of our local town centre and #LoveLocal!
