Town Link Radio partnership success

Quick co-operation and close communication via Town Link Radio between town centre retailers, the police and CCTV recently led to the arrest of two shoplifters in Wimbledon Town Centre.

Towards the end of March, River Island in Centre Court Shopping circulated via Love Wimbledon’s Town Link Radio descriptions of two shop lifters who had just left the store. Merton Council CCTV Control room responded, also via Town Link Radio, circulating descriptions and whereabouts of the suspects to the Police dispatch channel. Having been swiftly alerted, the Police managed to apprehend two shop lifters as they left another town centre retailer, TK Maxx with additional stolen items. Both suspects were arrested and all stolen property was recovered.

Speedy and continuous communication between the shops, CCTV and the Police via Town Link Radio played a crucial role in this successful result, and demonstrates the value of this system to Wimbledon Town Centre businesses.

Centre Court Shopping wins national award for tactical marketing

Centre Court Shopping Centre scooped the Revo Purple Apple Award for their Tactical Marketing campaign, Mothers Hall of Fame.

The innovative campaign was a celebration of Merton Mums, bringing life to the Lower Mall for two weeks in March last year. The marketing created an interactive Mothers Hall of Fame display engaging shoppers who could walk through and choose the Mother to whom they could relate most. Upon entry shoppers received tailored gift guides and exclusive offers relating to the specific personal interests of the Mother they had chosen. The campaign partnered with key local network, Mumsnet Merton.

Suzy Wood, Centre Director commented, “It was fantastic to win a full Purple Apple award this year, the campaign was fun and engaging, and allowed us to work with some of our key local shoppers. It is also great that it enabled Wimbledon to be recognised as a prominent retail destination.”

Opportunities for businesses at Wimbledon Guild Village Fair

Wimbledon Guild, the social welfare charity behind the hugely successful Wimbledon Guild Village Fair which attracts more than 35,000 visitors each year, is inviting local businesses to get involved with their biggest summer fundraiser.

The Wimbledon BID charity would like to attract new partners to support the event which this year takes place on Wimbledon Common on Saturday June 17. The Wimbledon Guild Village Fair is one of South London’s largest free outdoor events, growing each year to attract hundreds of local businesses and is a must-go-to event for local families.

And with local volunteers at the heart of making the Wimbledon Guild Village Fair the success it is, businesses are also being encouraged to consider volunteering, whether as a team or as individuals.

Chief Executive Wendy Pridmore explained that the charity provides practical, emotional and social support for people in crisis throughout the London Borough of Merton, explained: “We have a number of opportunities for businesses to get involved with the Wimbledon Guild Village Fair this year. The event plays a significant role in our community and grows each year making it a fabulous summer social event for local families and businesses.

“We’d love to hear from anyone who might be interested in becoming part of our fair to get in touch with us. Businesses can offer support or become involved in so many different ways, and we can tailor involvement to each company, from advertising in our programme to match funding or corporate sponsorship of an event or activity.

“And of course we would welcome corporate volunteers, who can help out with various activities and roles on 17 June, to make this a special occasion for everyone.”

Businesses interested in getting involved with this year’s Village Fair should contact Barbara Ruivo at Wimbledon Guild on by emailing bruivo@wimbledonguild.co.uk or calling 020 8739 2920.

This year’s event once again has something for everyone. Following its huge success last year, the thrilling Knights of Middle England medieval jousting tournament returns to the Main Arena for the second successive year. In addition there will be a plethora of activities for everyone to enjoy, from the children’s and adventure villages, packed with attractions such as bouncy castles, a climbing wall and petting farm, to a full programme of music and other events.

There will be two fantastic food villages offering mouth-watering traditional British and international cuisine and the Farmers’ Market will feature hand-selected products such as meats and cheeses from the best local producers around.

The extensive shopping village will have more than 200 stalls featuring treasures ranging from hand-crafted jewellery and designer clothing to colourful hats, homewares and plants. Visitors also have the chance to win top prizes in the Grand Raffle.

This fun-filled free-to-enter day for all ages raises funds in aid of the Wimbledon Guild. The social welfare charity helps local people lead a better life by tackling poverty, supporting ageing and encouraging mental wellbeing.

Wendy added: “Making the Wimbledon Guild Village Fair the huge success it has become is a pleasure but we do rely on the local community to help us make it what it is. Whether it is from supporting our fundraising activities to volunteering and helping on the day, the Village Fair is for everyone so we’re asking local businesses to consider joining in the fun with us this summer.”

Jacks on a roll with lucky seven nominations

The dapper chaps at Wimbledon’s Jacks of London barbers are in seventh Heaven after hitting the shortlist in seven awards over the space of just one week.

Acknowledged as one of the UK’s top male grooming brands, the prize-winning barber store is used to receiving accolades for its outstanding barbering performance, but even so, the crew at Jacks Wimbledon Bridge premises were elated to have so many nods come in at once.

‘It’s fantastic to get seven nominations in such a short time. We are well chuffed,’ said Jacks’ Master Barber in Wimbledon, Holly Rodgers. ‘We constantly push ourselves to be the best we can, pitting our skills against others in our craft. It’s a solid way to ensure the crew is always working at its best, and that our clients get the best cut and care they can at our store. To be singled out as one of a handful of other barbers across the UK worthy of an award shows we are doing it right.’

The Jacks Crew has made the finals of ShortList magazine’s Grooming Awards for Best New Men’s Styling product, plus it has two teams in the regional finals of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy and is in the running for three separate prizes in the Cut awards, run by Hair magazine, the UK’s top grooming title. The guys also got through to American Crew All Star Challenge, a competition run by the cool US-based brand to search out the hottest male looks for 2017.

‘Being good enough to enter awards takes determination, vision and discipline,’ added Holly, who is one of the finlaists in the L’Oréal competition. ‘It’s not just about our egos, it’s the ultimate way to keep our skills sharp, our crew ahead of the competition and our clients 100% satisfied.’

Formed in 1995, Jacks of London is the original modern barber, famed for its faultless and contemporary take on the full range of classic men’s styling techniques.

Over those two decades it has built a solid reputation among fashion-savvy guys everywhere, specialising in giving clients the full male grooming experience, with complimentary bar, live sports and big, comfy, man-friendly leather sofas in all its barber stores. The experience extends to Jacks’ exclusive The True Gent range of shampoos, conditioners and styling products, all with the fresh, overtly masculine tang of citrus and pomegranate.

This year Jacks is set to cement its position as a leading creative force in the male grooming world with the opening of a training academy which will educate barbers from across the world in its unique brand of hair cutting and styling techniques.
