Cleaning Improvements in Wimbledon Town Centre
Our aim is for Wimbledon to be welcoming to the public with clean roads, pavements and buildings. We rely on the council, Veolia and landlords to deliver most of these improvements from graffiti removal, street cleaning, road sweeping and gum removal. We do however fund deep cleaning once a month through our partnership with Community Clean. This work includes pavement cleansing, gum removal around bus stops and grot spots in town to make Wimbledon more presentable.
We Lobby for You
Love Wimbledon plays an important role in representing business to lobby utility companies, TfL, Veolia and Merton Council amongst others and we rely on a strong relationship with them to resolve problems quickly.
On average we report and resolve around 150 issues a month relating to waste, graffiti, flyposting and flytipping and are continually active in helping our town centre stay clean and be an area we can all be proud of. We do the pushing to highlight the issues promptly so often the public do not even see them.
This campaign will continue and be ongoing because until the fly tipping, flyposting, graffiti and gum dropping stops, we will drive to eradicate it. However, we have noticed since we remove the flyposting and graffiti quickly, we become less of a target. Incidents can be reported directly to our Town Ranger on Tomr@lovewimbledon.org to take forward.
Business Doing their Bit
Many pubs and bars in Wimbledon are part of the ‘Clean Sweep’ movement, making sure the pavements and areas outside their properties are swept after an evening. Special thanks to The Garratt & Gauge, Prince Of Wales Wimbledon, Smash, The Alexandra and All Bar One for their continued support of this campaign and please remember to tag us and use #cleansweepwimbledon in your social media posts. Cafes with outdoor spaces often litter pick outside too and we encourage businesses to wash the pavements outside their premises too wherever possible.
