601 Queen’s Road Opens For Business

After much anticipation, 601 Queen’s Road has opened in Wimbledon.

Being the sixth site for bar group Darwin & Wallace, 601 Queen’s Road is an independent neighbourhood bar that’s ‘more home than high street’.

They say, “A roof terrace full of light and breakfasts to wake up for, crafty beers and clever cocktails, plates to share or savour, and Saturday & Sunday DJs with the soundtrack to your weekend.”

As a bar first and foremost, at the heart of 601 Queen’s Road is the circular bar populated with a carefully curated selection of wines, from Italian proseccos to crisp whites and deep reds. The bar also features a wide range of craft, draft and bottled beers as well as homemade lemonades in many flavours from rhubarb and apple to pink grapefruit and ginger.

The menu celebrates seasonal and locally sourced produce using artisanal ingredients and produce from its own kitchen gardens. Sustainability is at the heart of the menu, using British and local producers to create sumptuous dishes. Scratch-cooked on site, dishes vary from slow-cooked Sunday Roasts to Rotisserie Pineapple and Chilli Puddings, providing something for everyone to enjoy throughout the whole day.

With the largest terrace in Wimbledon, this new local hangout offer all-day dinning. The central circular bar is certainly a talking point and with the selection of seating options (including a ‘lounge’), there is something to suit all occasions.

Mel Marriot, Founder and Managing Director at Darwin & Wallace said: “We are delighted to have opened in the bustling heart of Wimbledon, a quintessential London village. The rarity of the space is incredibly special, the terrace which wraps around the space opens into the evening all year round. The bar is light with signature features. We have worked with our talented artisans and makers to bring 601 Queen’s Rd to life with bespoke furniture, hand-picked artwork, ceramic tiles, unique lighting, and so much more, forming its own unique version of the Darwin & Wallace address.”

“We’re Roxie, the people’s meat local”

A warm Wimbledon welcome to Roxie Steak who opened their new restaurant on Wimbledon Hill Road this week to a delighted waiting list of eager diners. They’re a neighbourhood restaurant that cooks up mouth-watering meat in a space that’s relaxed, comfortable and feels close to home.

With booth seats, large sharing tables and everything in between there is space for everyone. Each Roxie shares the same meat manifesto, offering “quality that satisfies the meat aficionados at prices that make the rest of us smile.”

In the few nights we have been open we have experienced such a warm welcome from all the locals, that we absolutely know we made the right decision to open here. We cant wait to see meet more of them!”

Update from our CEO, Helen Clark Bell

Giving and Receiving… and a bit of change

We have a couple of changes in our Love Wimbledon Team – you may remember Danielle Sweeney went on maternity leave last year and Katie Owen has been doing a superb job covering that role. I am really delighted that Dani has returned part time and Katie has agreed to stay on a permanent basis. Sadly, our social media and ecard guru Holly is however leaving us and we wish her all the very best.

It seems it is the season for fundraising and wow don’t Wimbledon businesses do their bit! As a staff team we often join in, as do so many businesses around the town centre. If your business wants to get involved in local fundraising give us a call and we can help point you in the right direction.

Please remember Merton Best Business Awards are waiting for your entry (IT’S FREE) an incredible celebration of entrepreneurialship and why Merton is such a good place to have a business. Time and Leisure Food and Culture awards are also open, a good opportunity to promote to customers all over South West London. Previously many of our delectable cafes, restaurants and pubs have been finalist and winners and this year cultural venues and organisations can also have a shot.

Data and Love Wimbledon

Like all businesses across the country Love Wimbledon has been focusing on ensuring that we are managing data in the most responsible way and complying with the new GDPR regulations that come into force on 25th May. We have a number of different audiences that we communicate with and hold data on and have therefore audited all of our data comprehensively.

Having said this we have always been very clear that we will not buy in or sell data and treat data as a very important asset that we need to manage very carefully. Personally I cannot wait to stop receiving cold calls about a supposed traffic accident that they believe I had and would never want our data to be used for purposes for which it is not intended.

So what have we actually done?

  • We have developed and published a new privacy policy and cookie policy for our website
  • We have asked all subscribers to our consumer newsletter to re-subscribe with our new privacy policy attached
  • We have also asked all our Privilege Card Holders to re-subscribe in order to continue to receive our monthly update emails
  • We have very clear procedures and policies for communicating with our businesses and will regularly be cleansing this data to ensure we are not holding on to data that is no longer relevant to our business
  • Other data sets such as our market stall holders etc have also been communicated with and asked to opt in to continue to hear from us
  • On May 24th we will then be deleting our old mailing lists

If you are one of our BID businesses we have a requirement to communicate with you under the BID legislation and so you don’t need to do anything, we will continue to be in contact with you.

If you stop hearing from us and are missing our handy updates and news items, please don’t take it personally and re-subscribe so we can continue to keep you updated with all things Wimbledon, knowing that we are taking our responsibility for your data very seriously.
