Update: Merton Council Wimbledon Masterplan

The council masterplan for Wimbledon is still in consultation and closes just after New Year. Love Wimbledon is overall supportive of the vision of the masterplan in particular that they have listened to business and residential feedback during the process to inform the journey. We will be issuing a full response in the next ten days read more here.

 

Some of the benefits for Wimbledon Town Centre from the masterplan include:

  • Providing a flexible choice of retail space to entice varied businesses in the future
  • Developing workspace to suit different needs
  • Incorporating new civic space to develop an attractive central core
  • Greening the town centre
  • Decking over the tracks to create a less linear centre
  • Improving leisure and cultural space (inside and out!) which includes community space that can be accessed during the day for exhibitions / events etc
  • Designing a world-renowned transport interchange to be proud of
  • Increase in pedestrian ways around town
  • Creating clear zones which are bite sized and clearand could help with short and long term phasing plans

UXUK Awards 2018: stem4 Wins Two

stem4 were delighted to have been awarded the Best Not-for-Profit Category Award and the overall Best User Experience Award at the UXUK Awards 2018 for the Calm Harm app which helps young people manage the urge to self-harm. The moderator and host was John Goodall, Bunnyfoot and the panel of 9 judges were from Bunnyfoot, Google, BT, BA, Financial Times, Sainsburys, Whitbread and Lloyds. The judges complimented Calm Harm for meeting all elements of the judging criteria which included content, effectiveness, ease of use, purpose, research and visual design.

 

Dr Nihara Krause, CEO and Founder of stem4 and clinical creator of Calm Harm said ‘We are thrilled to be acknowledged for the work we do and to receive the best user experience award is acknowledgement of what is at the heart of what we do. We want to provide children and young people with effective digital tools that can enable them to manage psychological difficulties early so that they can make quick recovery.’

 

stem4 are proud to be working with HMA, their tech partners for ‘Calm Harm’.  They attended  the event with Dr Krause.

 

Calm Harm has met the standards required to be  included in the NHS Digital Apps Library and has won several awards and been featured in the London Design Museum.The website www.calmharm.co.uk allows users to find out more about the app, watch an introductory video, view screenshots, read app reviews and order Calm Harm resources such as posters and postcards.

Close Brothers food recycling in Wimbledon office

Love Wimbledon is pleased to announce that Close Brothers are now carrying out food recycling in their offices in Wimbledon Town Centre.

 

A rep from Close Brothers said, “We’re delighted to be providing a solution to food waste management within our office in Wimbledon. We know what a difference simple changes can make to the environment, and have been working to introduce this over the last few months, helping us to become even more environmentally friendly as a business. We hope the success of this initiative will encourage other businesses in Wimbledon to introduce an environmental solution to food waste as well.”

Love Wimbledon has teamed up with dependable and award-winning recycling company First Mile to provide free and reduced recycling sacks to BID members. Support for Wimbledon charities stem4 and Wimbledon Guild

stem4 and Wimbledon Guild benefit from Autumn Quarter Marathon with funds raised by the Wimbledon Windmilers and Triathlon Club

                                                                                   

stem4 was one of the charities to benefit from funds raised by the many runners who participated in the new Autumn Quarter Marathon race presented by the Wimbledon Windmilers Runners and Triathlon Club on Wimbledon Common. stem4 and the Wimbledon Guild were each presented with a cheque for £1000 on Sunday 4 November by Chiara Samele of the Wimbledon Windmilers.

Dr Nihara Krause, CEO and Founder of stem4 said:”A huge thank you to the Wimbledon Windmilers for organising the Quarter Marathon and for their donation.  We are very grateful to be recognised and supported by the local community for the work we do with young people, their parents and schools.  This donation will help us continue to provide our focus on early detection and intervention.”

November Update from CEO Helen

On 5th November Love Wimbledon goes all Christmassy with the launch of our seasonal campaign on line and in print. We’re working hard on our winter issue of Our Wimbledon Magazine which will be delivered to your business very soon. The Christmas tree returns this year outside the station on November 19th with over 5,000 lights to brighten up our day (and night!). Thank you to Morrisons Solicitors for sponsoring the tree this year.

The NEW Wimbledon masterplan, a vision for 2030 and beyond has been launched by Merton Council. It is really important that the business voice is heard in this consultation and therefore would urge you to attend our jointly hosted business forum on 15th November where Paul McGarry, Head of Future Merton and Love Wimbledon will be eager to hear your opinions.

It’s time to Play Wimbledon. Merton Council with competition winner Lugadero will be hosting two pop-ups to get your feedback on the spaces outside New Wimbledon Theatre and St Marks Place. Business focused design workshops will be held in St Mark’s Place from 11am-2pm on 3 November, and outside Wimbledon Theatre from 11am-2pm on 10 November so come along and bring your ideas.

This month in partnership with The Merton Chamber of Commerce we host two networking events, Love to Lunch and Wimbledon Young Professionals Group so spread the word to your colleagues and do come along.

A note for early next month, this years Winter Wonderland is on Sunday 2nd December so please don’t forget The Broadway will be closed from Queens Road to Hartfield Road and the event runs until 7.30pm this year.
