Free Cyber Protect Services by Metropolitan Police

The Cyber Protect Team at the Metropolitan Police Service, is an award-winning team that was set up to help protect small to medium-size businesses and charities in London, from the ever-growing threat of cyber crime.

They provide free advice, presentations and planning exercises that are impartial and tailored to the needs of each organisation. All services are continually revised to make sure they are up-to-date with the latest security guidance from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

Their free services include:

  • Cyber awareness presentations
    Covers basic cyber-hygiene principles which businesses can follow to mitigate cyber attacks, through use of real-life examples. Includes: phishing, social engineering, ransomware, secure connections, insider threat, password security and more. Presentations can be delivered virtually or in person.
  • Scanning online systems for vulnerabilities
    Use of specialist software to give your organisation’s online infrastructure an in-depth security check, assessing against a set of security controls to search for known vulnerabilities.
  • Decisions and disruptions exercise
    Designed to help decision makers within the organisation, learn the importance of making timely and correct decisions when it comes to cyber security, including what should be a priority.
  • Cyber escape room
    A fun, interactive exercise to teach staff good online security behaviours though a variety of problem-solving tasks.
  • NCSC exercise in a box
    An “around the table” discussion based exercise led by the Cyber Protect team which helps you understand your organisation’s preparedness and resilience to cyber attacks.

Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) Monthly Sessions

Counter Terrorism Sessions for Business

As restrictions have eased, everyone should be able to enjoy safely the opportunities to get out and about. To help you keep your customers and staff, Metropolitan Police, in partnership with Merton Chamber of Commerce, are hosting free monthly Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) sessions.

The current threat to the UK from Terrorism is Substantial – an attack is likely.

As further venues and sectors open, naturally public health will be at the forefront of business owners’ minds, however security must also be considered during planning and briefings, helping to protect customers not just against Covid, but terrorism too.

Businesses are being encouraged to:

  • Risk assess their existing sites and any new premises such as outdoor spaces; and consider the protective security advice available here
  • Get staff to sign up and complete ACT e-learning training.
  • Speak to the police about any concerns
