Interactive Storytime & Craft with Juno Pen Arts

Book Tickets

A fun interactive event to mark National Storytelling Week! Ages 4-11

Come join local author Imani (Juno Pen Arts) at Wimbledon Library for a special reading of her children’s books, and a chance to design their own West African island.

The Uncle and Auntie Man Dem series was the 2020 “lockdown” brain child of Imani Ulaini. The funny quirky characters were inspired by the brave, sincere and endearing postwar African- Caribbean migrant generation, who nurtured Imani as she grew up in 1970s Britain. The stories are set in TALAWAH TOWN a fictional, ankh shaped island located off the West African coast.

The stories are steeped in traditional African symbolism and are founded upon the ancient African principles of community, honour and ‘UBUNTU’ (“I am because you are”).

The Uncle and Auntie Man Dem stories are crafted to be honouring as well as humorous, they will bring levity to the heart and will be thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family, from the youngest to the eldest.

Copies of the books will be available for sale after the event.
