Spring Awakening Exhibition

Pop over to Aubergine Art, an independent family-run art gallery in the heart of Wimbledon for a special exhibition which celebrates the manifold delights of spring, from Sophie Berger’s mesmeric moor landscapes and blossom bursting trees, via Sarah Ollerenshaw’s irrepressible bluebell woods and Dorothea Carr’s tonal still life’s and window- framed landscapes.
Nigel Sharman juxtaposes harbour scenes rich in saturated blocks of colour with quietly introspective still life compositions, whilst Tracey Oldham’s bubble-gum colours pop from her paintings with irresistible panache and punch.
New to Aubergine, Cornish painter Christine Brunnock’s semi-abstracted seascapes vibrate with the energy and dynamism of the ocean, infused with iridescent paint and deeply toned hues, whilst Edwina Broadbent offers a fresh take on the classic floral arrangement, alongside scenes of dramatic rock formations set against the jewel-toned Cornish sea. The palette-knife paintings of Sian McGill utilise her measured mark making to great effect, creating beautifully balanced tonal views of land and sea, whilst their final new addition – sculptor Sara Ross – uses both cast and cold- cast bronze methods to create oysters with glorious patination; each a perfectly formed vessel echoing the curvaceous shapes and burnished shades that emerge from the very sea bed.
