Wimbledon Children’s Festival
The inaugural Wimbledon Children’s Festival, presented by New Wimbledon Theatre and Roast Productions, is the perfect way to kick off the summer holidays, introducing children to the power of live music and theatre, with an opportunity to meet some of their favourite authors. A series of ten shows running from 31st July to 11th August includes story-telling with acclaimed children’s writers, Science Museum Live, Disney in Concert, Fireman Sam Live, and much more.
Budding Artists
Fire up their creative energy with a fantastic range of workshops. Polka Theatre is running a Comic Book Art and Writing Masterclass on 26th July, and due to popular demand there’s an additional Polka Puppet Summer School from 7-9th August.
In Wimbledon Library, award-winning artist, Sonia Leung is hosting a series of Manga Workshops as part of Wimbledon BookFest from 31st July – 1st August. Learn how to create your own characters, try out different drawing techniques and master the iconic Manga look.
Sports Action
There’s loads on offer across Wimbledon’s sporty venues to keep kids physically active all summer.
Under-16s can swim for free at Wimbledon Leisure Centre on week days between 9-10am and every day between 1-3pm. Wimbledon Leisure Centre also runs Junior Gym at various times throughout the holidays, as well as Junior Fitness Classes on weekdays at 5pm.
The Golf Groove in Wimbledon Quarter is running Summer Camp again this year, with a PGA pro and classes for 7-12 year olds and for kids aged 13+. Plus there’s a Summer Special running weekdays throughout August for families to enjoy a 90min sim session with food for the kids.
And there’s Summer Bouldering Club at The Boardroom Climbing in Wimbledon Quarter, which offers a dynamic blend of bouldering challenges, interactive learning, and good old-fashioned fun for 7-15 year olds, all under the guidance of our instructors.
Polka Theatre
When a trip to the Space Museum goes terrifyingly wrong, Sam begins a mission to prove to everyone that he is a fearless space adventurer, in this adaptation of Katie and Kevin Tsang’s best-selling book, Sam Wu is NOT Afraid of Ghosts, running from 22nd June – 18th August.
And in How To Catch a Star, stunning puppet design blends seamlessly with a magical score and an imaginative narrative to tell the story of a boy who dreamt of having a star as a friend. Based on the beloved book by award-winning Irish author Oliver Jeffers, this delightful reminder for us all to follow our dreams runs from 3-11 August.
