These awards recognise the contributions that local businesses make to Merton and award them for their resilience, creativity and innovation. This year’s awards featured new categories, including the Top Woman in Business and Sports and Fitness Business of the Year, expanding the accolades offered. Businesses gathered for the awards presentation on 5th October, at AFC Wimbledon’s new state-of-the-art venue.
New experiential business, The Golf Groove, took home the Best New Business Award. The Golf Groove is one of the new businesses which have joined the Wimbledon Quarter (formerly Centre Court). Wimbledon School of English, widely known as the UK’s leading English School, received the Best Independent Business Award. Domestic & General secured Employer of the Year Award for investing in their employees. Commercial property specialists, Lewis & Co, was recognised as the Best in the Property Sector. Wimbledon’s family favourite children’s theatre, Polka Theatre, was presented with the Best in The Creative Sector for their amazing ability to tell creative stories through unique performances, costumes, scripts and sets.

Are your junior golfers looking to have fun and learn or improve this half-term? Then sign up for The Golf Groove’s Half-Term Camp, with PGA pro Jake. There are morning classes for ages 7 to 12 and afternoon classes for 12+ and includes lunch or dinner. The Boardroom Climbing now offers Kids Fun Sessions, one-off sessions to give you a taste of bouldering – spaces are limited! If you would like to take climbing further, join the Kids Boulder Club, a six-week national development programme, taking place weekly during term time.

Sushi masterclasses for children return to Sticks’n’Sushi Wimbledon on Saturday 21st October. Classes are suitable for ages 8-12 years of all ability levels with clear and thorough teaching, ensuring all can participate. All children will get squash during the class and leave with a goody bag including a certificate, their bandana, rolling mat, chopsticks, chocolate fish and a Japanese number and phrase sheet.
