Wimbledon Guild Begins Major Refurbishment of Guild House

Local charity Wimbledon Guild has begun to refurbish Guild House, its long-standing community hub on Worple Road. Built in the 1960s and now in need of essential repairs and modernisation, the renovation marks a significant investment in local wellbeing services by the charity.

From February 2026, work will begin to transform Guild House into a modern, accessible and welcoming building designed to support local people for decades to come. The charity looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the improved, purpose-built space in early 2027.

Wimbledon Guild supports over 4,000 people across Merton each year. Through practical help, emotional support and community services, the charity tackles isolation, financial hardship and mental health challenges.

Ensuring that this vital support continues uninterrupted during the renovation work has been a top priority for Wimbledon Guild. All services will continue running from alternative venues throughout the refurbishment:

• Wimbledon Guild at the Methodist Church, Griffiths Road, London SW19 1SP

The HomeFood Café is temporarily located at Wimbledon Methodist Church. The community café is serving delicious, freshly cooked meals every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:15pm to 1pm.

Social activities for people aged 50+ will also run from Wimbledon Methodist Church.

• Drake House, 44 St George’s Rd, London SW19 4ED

Meanwhile, exercise classes for people aged 50+ will continue to take place at Drake House on St George’s Road.

• WG Morden, 3-4 Crown Parade, Morden SM4 5DA

Wimbledon Guild’s range of free group and individual Talking Therapies services will be delivered from the charity’s Morden site.

The refurbishment will be fully funded from Wimbledon Guild’s financial reserves which have been carefully built up over many years.

 

As part of the project, the charity will be looking to work with the local community to help fund new furniture, equipment and other essential items that will directly support thousands of local people—ensuring the modernised space can continue to be a lifeline for everyone facing life’s challenges.
