Wimbledon Town Centre took the spotlight on Thursday 19th September as the Merton Best Business Awards celebrated a record-breaking number of applications, showcasing just how many outstanding businesses there are in our community!
The awards made their return to AFC Wimbledon’s facility on Plough Lane, and it was a night to remember! Polka Theatre secured a remarkable hat trick of awards, including the ‘Merton Business of the Year Award’. Love Wimbledon was proud to be gold sponsors of the awards, as well as sponsoring the ‘Enterprising Business Award’, aligning with our commitment to supporting local innovation. The night was filled with enthusiasm, highlighting the camaraderie and support among local businesses.
Among the standout winners were four Love Wimbledon BID businesses: Polka Theatre with a trio of awards (‘Sustainable Impact Award’, ‘Equality, Diversity & Inclusion’, and ‘Merton Business of the Year’), Wimbledon Dental Wellness received the award for ‘Best New Business’, Fortius Clinic won the ‘Enterprising Business Award’ sponsored by Love Wimbledon, and Bombay Delight took home the Hospitality Business of the Year award.
Love Wimbledon market stallholder Forty Acre Coffee was also recognised for its success over the year, winning the award for Best Independent Business.
A further four runners-up awards went to businesses in Wimbledon Town Centre: The Alexandra for Contribution to the Community, OutoftheBit for Enterprising Business Award, and the celebrations continued for Jane Dancaster of Wimbledon School of English, having just marked the business’s 60th anniversary, as runner-up for the Business Leader of the Year award. Culynart, a regular stallholder at Love Wimbledon’s monthly markets, was also awarded runner-up for Best New Business.
Other wins to celebrate include Sustainable Merton winning the Charity of the Year Award, having collaborated with them closely for Sustainable September, as well as Rebecca Cresta, winner of the newly created ‘Freelancer of the Year Award’ and who has previously worked closely with Love Wimbledon and businesses in the town centre.
It was a wonderful night and brilliant to celebrate the achievements of our local enterprises and the supportive spirit that makes Wimbledon a great place to work and live!
