With the arrival of spring (at last!) and with bulbs sprouting into life across Wimbledon, it feels appropriate that last week I was fortunate to attend the launch of the London Growth Plan, a bold and ambitious 10-year plan developed on a pan-London, cross-party basis, that seeks to grow productivity growth for London in the next decade. You can see the plan in full here.
Having spent a considerable amount of time championing Wimbledon to London-wide organisations who contributed to the creation of this plan, such as the GLA and London & Partners, it is gratifying to see Wimbledon is recognised within it as both a regionally significant office cluster and an internationally significant destination. These are challenging times, but with new exciting businesses and new hotels arriving here in Wimbledon Town Centre over the next 2 years, this opportunity will only grow further, and we are delighted to have played a part in making sure Wimbledon is recognised in the Plan.
The Plan also says the following on Page 96:
Londoners experience the economy through their everyday lives in our high streets and town centres. Growth feels real when people see their local area becoming safer, greener and cleaner with more opportunities to work, learn, go out and be part of the local community.
This feels like a welcome endorsement of the work that Love Wimbledon and other Business Improvement Districts strive to do across London, tailoring local solutions to address the needs of its business community, while creating places which are successful, sustainable and safe.
