This International Women’s Day we caught up with Angela Attah, the Chair of the Love Wimbledon Board. Having joined the board in 2020 she was voted in as Chair in 2025. A voluntary position, her day job is the Director of Legal and Governance for the internationally renowned CIPD, the professional body for HR and people Development, based in Wimbledon.
What attracted you to joining the Love Wimbledon Board?
It is always great to use my skills and experience particularly in governance, to give back and I have a few other voluntary non-executive/trustee roles. What makes Love Wimbledon different though is the direct link to where my office is based, so I have a real interest in helping make sure the town works for all businesses.
What is the role of the Board?
The Board’s role is to ensure that Love Wimbledon is properly run and compliant with all its obligations. In practice it holds the CEO to account for the day to day operation of the organisation.
Who sits on the Board and what is your remit?
In addition to myself, there are nine other members of the Board representing businesses located in Wimbledon from various sectors, including retail, hospitality and financial.
What’s your favourite initiative that Love Wimbledon leads on?
Its work with Merton Council and other partners to make Wimbledon the best it can be for all its businesses (followed closely by the Love Wimbledon Privilege Card).
What’s it like working in Wimbledon?
Great. It has excellent transport links and a plethora of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues.
What’s your favourite place to eat in Wimbledon (and why)?
Bombay Delight! I have never been a huge fan of Indian food, but I have been converted – every time I go there I am blown away by the authenticity and flavours of the vast number of dishes on their menu. The ambience is also lovely and the staff are truly remarkable. Highly recommended!
What message would you like to share with women in our business community today?
We are making strides – even though at times it may not feel like it, and we just need to keep doing what we do to the best of our ability.
