Food Delivery Bikes in Wimbledon
We have received many complaints from businesses and pedestrians about the proliferation of food delivery bikes gathering in particular locations. Individually the bikes are not a particular issue but collectively they are taking up much needed parking bays and can be intimidating.
Working to Find a Solution
Love Wimbledon has been working behind the scenes with Merton Council, Deliveroo and other providers along with the police to find a suitable solution that works for us all. In February 2019 we surveyed the businesses that use these bikes with a view to identify a couple of designated areas for the bikes to wait until their next order arrives. Read about our survey.
Initial feedback is overall supportive for proceeding with this plan. We will keep businesses up to date of progress so that meals can still be delivered easily but we will be able to reduce the detrimental effect of the bikes on the town experience.
Deliveroo Progress Update
In May 2019 Deliveroo responded to our pressure. Working in partnership with them a number of solutions will be implemented to ease this pressure whilst still ensuring our businesses continue to benefit from this trade. We will keep you updated on our implementation plans. Read our May Deliveroo Progress Update.
In July 2019 we reported that after our efforts working with Merton Council we have managed to secure some additional motorbike parking bays in Hartfield Road car park to enable food delivery bikes to wait there for orders to come through. Love Wimbledon will also be arranging a workshop for local riders to attend to explain in person the issues we are experiencing and build better relationships with them. Read our July Deliveroo Progress Update.
In August 2019 Deliveroo hosted a drop in session for their riders in Hartfield Road car park. This was well attended with over 100 riders as Deliveroo gave away a lot of ‘kit’, whilst also giving them a leaflet from Love Wimbledon outlining some positive behaviours that we would like to encourage within the town. Please do report any issues you experience directly to support@deliveroo.co.uk. Read our Deliveroo Riders Drop In Session.
