Food Delivery Bikes in Wimbledon
We have received many complaints from businesses and pedestrians about the proliferation of food delivery bikes gathering in particular locations. Individually the bikes are not a particular issue but collectively they are taking up much needed parking bays and can be intimidating.
Working to Find a Solution
Love Wimbledon has been working with Merton Council, Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats along with the police to find a suitable solution that works for us all.
We regularly communicate with the delivery platforms about the issues we are experiencing and have co-ordinated several meetings with all parties and key stakeholders to agree on a suitable approach.
We will keep businesses up to date with our progress so that deliveries can still support local businesses but reduce the detrimental effect of the bikes on the town experience.
Progress Update
Love Wimbledon is Chair of a specific “Task and Finish” group with Merton Council to identify solutions. Stephen Hammond MP also hosted a Delivery Bike Rider summit with all key parties in November 2021, which Love Wimbledon helped to co-ordinate.
Additional motorbike parking bays were identified in Hartfield Road car park to enable food delivery bikes to wait there for their orders.
In August 2019 Deliveroo hosted a drop in session for their riders in Hartfield Road car park. This was well attended with over 100 riders as Deliveroo gave away a lot of ‘kit’, whilst also giving them a leaflet from Love Wimbledon outlining some positive behaviours that we would like to encourage within the town. Please do report any issues you experience directly to support@deliveroo.co.uk. Read our Deliveroo Riders Drop In Session.
